Bath Mats 50x70 cm
At 800 g/m², this is one of the heaviest bath mats in its class. You feel it immediately under your feet: thick, densely woven, and sturdy. It retains its volume where thin mats go flat after a few months.
What you use it for
- For the shower or bath — absorbs the water from two pairs of feet without leaking through
- By the washbasin — no more wet spots on the tiles
- In the sauna or wellness area — resistant to intensive washing
- As a spare mat — with a set of 2, one is always ready while the other is in the wash
- On underfloor heating — pure cotton, so no rubber backing that hardens or becomes sticky
No anti-slip backing. Most bath mats have a layer of rubber or PVC on the bottom. That seems convenient, but that layer cannot be washed at high temperatures and will eventually crack and become sticky. This mat is pure cotton: completely machine washable at 60 °C and suitable for the tumble dryer. Place it on a dry floor, or use a separate anti-slip mat underneath it on slippery tiles.
What does 800 g/m² mean?
GSM stands for grams per square meter: the weight of one square meter of fabric. The higher the number, the more cotton, and the more water the fabric can absorb.
With a towel, you can go too far — it also needs to dry again. Not with a bath mat: it lies on the floor and you don't use it to dry your body. There, you want the highest weight possible. A standard bath mat from the store is around 500 to 600 g/m² and goes flat after a few months. This one is at 800 g/m² and absorbs the water from two pairs of wet feet without it leaking through to the tiles.
What does 20/2 mean?
A towel consists of thousands of tiny yarn loops. 20/2 indicates how that yarn is made. The 20 is the thickness of the thread. The 2 means that two of those threads are twisted together into one stronger thread. This is called two-ply.
Most towels in this price range use one single thread — that is 20/1. You won't see the difference in the store, but you will notice it after a year: a single thread frays and the loops lie flat, making the towel feel thinner and absorb less water. Two twisted threads remain upright. That is why this towel will still feel like a new towel after thirty washes.
Why Egyptian cotton?
Cotton grows as a tuft of fibers. With regular cotton, those fibers are short, meaning many loose ends stick out of the thread. That causes lint, and it feels rough after a while. Egyptian cotton has longer fibers, so there are fewer loose ends per thread. The result is a smoother and stronger thread: soft from the first wash, and it retains its shape.
We weave directly with our weaver in Egypt, without intermediaries. We have been supplying bath linen to hotels and the catering industry in the Netherlands for years — this is that same hotel quality, in classic hotel white.

How to keep it in good condition
- Wash it separately once before you use it for the first time. New terry cloth comes with a thin coating from the weaving process. That must be removed first, because only then will the cotton truly absorb water. If you skip that first wash, the mat may seem to have poor absorption — that is not the quality, that is just the coating.
- Do not use fabric softener. Fabric softener leaves a thin film on the fiber. It feels soft at first, but it seals the fiber so that water can no longer get in. After a few washes, you are left with something that no longer absorbs anything.
- Washing at 60 °C is enough to get everything out.
- Tumble drying is allowed, on a low setting. The heat actually sets the loops back upright, making it feel fuller than if you dry it on a clothesline.
-
That first separate wash applies to all dyed terry cloth: some color may run.
Note: Due to the high GSM and full cotton structure, this bath linen may shed some lint during the first 2 to 3 washes. This is normal and will decrease automatically after a few washes. Wash the product before first use and preferably separately or with similar colors.
Towels and bath mats: machine washable at 60 °C. Bathrobes: machine washable at 40 °C. Do not use fabric softener — it coats the fibres and reduces absorbency. Tumble drying on low keeps the loops intact longest. Wash separately the first time.
GSM is the weight of the fabric per square meter. Supermarket towels are around 350 GSM, hotels typically use 500. Above that, you get noticeably more volume and absorption.
