A bathrobe made from 420 g/m² Egyptian cotton, in five colours — heavy enough to dry off in, light enough to wear all morning. One size: XXL, generously cut and unisex.

What you'll use it for

  • Straight after the shower — you dry off while wearing it, so you don't need a towel
  • At the breakfast table — the belt and two pockets keep it in place
  • At the sauna, spa or swimming pool — the weight you'd expect from a spa
  • In the guest room or Airbnb — XXL is generously cut, so it fits almost any guest
  • After an outdoor swim — pull it on over a swimsuit or swim shorts

What does 420 g/m² mean?

GSM stands for grams per square metre: the weight of one square metre of fabric. The higher the number, the thicker and more absorbent it is.

With a bathrobe you don't want the highest number, and that surprises many people. A bathrobe is something you wear. From 600 g/m² it becomes so heavy that it drags on your shoulders, and after washing it needs half a day to dry. 420 g/m² is the point where it still absorbs enough water to dry off in, yet stays light enough to sit in for an hour. That's exactly the weight a good spa uses.

Why Egyptian cotton?

Cotton grows as a tuft of fibres. Regular cotton has short fibres, so lots of loose ends stick out of the yarn. That causes pilling, and after a while it feels rough. Egyptian cotton has longer fibres, so there are fewer loose ends per thread. The result is a smoother, stronger yarn: soft from the very first wash, and it keeps its shape.

About the size. This bathrobe comes in one size: XXL. That sounds big, and it is — a bathrobe should fit loosely, with enough overlap to tie it closed. In practice it fits from roughly size M up to XXL. If you want it snug around your body, choose a bathrobe with sizing; if you like it loose and relaxed, this is exactly right.

We weave directly with our weaver in Egypt, without middlemen. We have been supplying bath linen to hotels and hospitality businesses in the Netherlands for years — the Nile Collection is that same quality, in colours that belong in a home.

  • Colour: Powder Pink, Lilac, Light Blue, Mint Green or Taupe

  • Contents: 1 bathrobe
  • Weight: 420 g/m² (grams per square metre — this determines how thick and absorbent the fabric is)
  • Material: 100% Egyptian cotton
  • Details: belt and two pockets
  • Total length: 118 cm
  • Origin: woven in Egypt

How to care for it

  • Wash it once separately before first use. New terry cloth comes with a thin coating from the weaving process. That has to come off first, because only then does the cotton really absorb water. If you skip that first wash, the bathrobe may seem to absorb poorly — that's not the quality, it's that coating.
  • Don't use fabric softener. Fabric softener leaves a thin film around the fibre. It feels soft at first, but it seals the fibre so water can no longer get in. After a few washes you're left with something that no longer absorbs anything.
  • Washing at 40 °C is enough to get everything out.
  • Tumble drying is fine, on a low setting. The heat makes the loops stand up again, so it feels fuller than when you line-dry it.
  • That first separate wash applies to all dyed terry cloth: some colour may run.

Please note: Because of the high weight and full cotton structure, this bath textile may shed some lint during the first 2 to 3 washes. This is normal and decreases by itself after a few washes. Wash the product before first use, preferably separately or with similar colours.

Towels and bath mats: machine washable at 60 °C. Bathrobes: machine washable at 40 °C. Do not use fabric softener — it coats the fibres and reduces absorbency. Tumble drying on low keeps the loops intact longest. Wash separately the first time.

GSM is the weight of the fabric per square meter. Supermarket towels are around 350 GSM, hotels typically use 500. Above that, you get noticeably more volume and absorption.
